Wylie W. Vale built this stunning house for the Townsend family in 1955 on nearly an acre of River Oaks property. In October of the same year, Fortune magazine covered the home in a story called “The $250,000 House,” noting that the house’s bathroom had “turquoise mosaic tiles that matched the opera-singing Mrs. Townsend’s eyes.” The 7000 square ft. house, as many Vale designed homes, has a giant stone chimney and uses stone and wood, along with large glass panels to contribute to the organic archictectural style that Vale calls “Contemporary Country”.
