American General Building
Architect: Lloyd, Morgan & Jones
(1965)
2727 Allen Parkway

Formerly known as American General Building, the Wortham Tower was designed by Lloyd, Morgan and Jones in 1965 as one of the first in a complex of office buildings developed by the American General Life Insurance Company. The building is named after the oil baron and insurance tycoon, Gus Wortham who originally founded American General. The 25-story tower stands above the gently sloping typography along Buffalo Bayou. The glass curtain wall is recessed behind a precast grid allowing natural light to penetrate deep within the building.
